PNS 2166:2022
The Bureau of Philippine Standards has adopted PAS 9017 as a national standard for the country, denoted PNS 2166:2022
Why do we need PNS 2166:2022?
Littering and plastic pollution is a huge problem globally, leading to bans on single-use plastics and the increase in biodegradable packaging. Following the development of a technique allowing polyolefins to degrade in the open air on land, PAS 9017:2020 was written in order to quickly disseminate this technology across the plastic supply chain. It has since been adopted by several countries where bans on single use plastics are in force and/or the proof of biodegradability is required.
What does PNS 2166:2022 standard test method involve?
PNS 2166:2022, Plastics – Biodegradation of polyolefins on an open-air terrestrial environment – Specification was approved for adoption as Philippine National Standard by the Bureau of Philippine Standards upon the recommendations of the Technical Committee on Plastics and Plastic Products (BPS/TC 45) and its Working Group on Biodegradability and Compostability (BPS/TC 45/WG1).
This standard is a modified adoption of BSI PAS 9017:2020, Plastics – Biodegradation of polyolefins on an open-air terrestrial environment – Specification.
