The use of modern composite materials is rapidly increasing mainly due to their great advantage of being lightweight and strong.  Composite materials can be tailored in order to meet requirements of particular applications, choosing an appropriate material (thermoplastics or thermosets) as a matrix and a reinforcement material such as carbon or glass fibres.
