Bio-based Plastics
Bio-based plastics are polymers synthesised from renewable resources such as biomass based on biological and biochemical processes. They are characterised by the nature of carbon neutral or carbon offset in which the atmospheric CO2 concentration does not increase even after the incineration. The table below outlines the different types of bio-based materials along with some examples.
New types of plastic are being constantly developed in which biodegradability is a specifically sought-for characteristic. To make sure these plastics are fit for biological recycling, their biodegradability must be demonstrated, preferably by standard test methods. To have a complete understanding of the biodegradation characteristics of plastic under these different environmental conditions, various methods are required.
The test standard listed below is just one of the standard tests which we can offer to understand the biodegradability of a product. We can work with you to design the best test programme for your product, get in touch today.
