ISO 4892-2 : Automotive Accelerated Weathering Standards

ISO 4892-2 Porsche / General Standard. Plastic method of exposure to laboratory light sources.

What does ISO 4892 standard involve?

ISO 4892 specifies methods of exposing samples to varying conditions such as laboratory light sources with the addition of moisture, humidity, and temperature. This is to simulate the conditions products or materials are expected to endure in real-life applications, measuring the effects of the most aggressive elements of weather

ISO 4892-2 exposes samples toĀ xenon arc light. Samples are set up within a QUV test chamber that uses fluorescent lamps to provide a radiation spectrum centered in the ultraviolet wavelengths. Moisture is provided by forced condensation and temperature is controlled by heaters. This test can be conducted using outdoor filters or indoor window glass filters depending on your requirements with several cycle options on offer. These cycles are continued for hundreds, or thousands of hours but still accelerate the effects of the weathering process.

Depending on the intended application and performance of the test samples, they may be required to undergo further evaluation such as visual inspection and degradation of physical and mechanical properties.
