ISO 7827 : Ultimate biodegradability of organic compounds in an aqueous medium.
What does ISO 7827 (ultimate biodegradability of organic compounds) standard test method involve?
ISO 7827 gives a method to evaluate the ultimate biodegradability of organic compounds in an aqueous medium by aerobic microorganisms. The biodegradation is determined by measurement of the DOC (dissolved organic carbon) concentration. Based on the percentage removal of DOC the biodegradability of the organic compound can be determined.
Activated sludge collected from a sewage plant or surface water from an appropriate body is used as the inoculum. Activated sludge is the biomass produced in the aerobic treatment of wastewater by the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms.
What to expect from this testing?
- Providing the scientific data to determine the biodegradability of organic compounds in an aerobic aquatic environment (such as waste water treatment plants).

What to expect from this testing?
Providing the scientific data to determine the potential aerobic biodegradability of plastic materials, polymers, and additives when exposed to the natural aqueous environment.
